Meet the Techies - Episode 2

Hi Friends,

Welcome back to the second episode of “Meet the Techies”!

Continuing our analysis further we have identified that the introduction of IT culture in the cities has raised the lifestyle and culture of the city. People (Techies of course) have become more advanced and more lavish. What used to be the means of lavishness of their ancestors have become their basic needs. So we found that the meaning of different classes of societies has changed in IT cities. Based on the monthly income we can roughly categorize the various classes of society in the following manner:

Monthly Income Range (Rupees)	Class
Above 2L	Higher class
1.25L – 2L	Higher middle class
80k – 1.25L	Middle class
40k – 80k	Lower middle class
25k – 40k	Lower class
Below 25k	Not allowed to live

In the second part of the article we will talk about a category of techie, which we had missed in the first article. And so we take the privilege to not just name this particular type of techie rather we will write few words in their honor. So friends please welcome the ‘Branded Techie’. We will not utter much about them as it is better to know the reason for them being branded techie from them only. Let’s listen to what they use to say:

“Hey! I lost my Red Tape shoes in the train.”

“Shit Yaar! I forgot to bring my touch screen HTC mobile today.” (How many mobiles do you have?)

“Hi! What you did last weekend? I had done some time pass, did shopping worth Rs 10000 and bought a Lee Cooper Jeans, Nike Shoes….. ” (Me: Wait dear you asked me and explaining your shopping details, this is not done)

“See the pictures taken by my XYZ camera!” (Dear tell me whose pictures are these!)

So by this time you might have identified one branded techie around you, isn’t it? These branded techies remind us about one Santa Banta joke but that we cannot publish here maintaining the decorum of the forum.

An Appreciable Move by SFM

My office is 16 km from my home so I use to go to office by my office bus. Due to traffic the bus takes around 35-45 minutes to reach office. Listening to FM radio is my favorite time pass. I usually tune in SFM as it’s my favorite radio channel. From last few days SFM has started a social awareness move in which they talk about some of the common problems in Pune. They talk about the problem, they talk to the people who are really facing the problem and they also try to contact the authorities responsible to resolve the problem. The RJ of this show is Ashwin and the name of the show is ‘Guru Ho Ja Shuru’, if I am correct. Though the program uses to be in a mix of Marathi and Hindi languages I manage to understand most of it. This show reminds me of the movie “Lage Raho Munna Bhai”.

I am taking you direct to Ashwin’s today’s show. Today he talked about the efforts the common man can take in order to keep his city clean. In any city in India, it’s very common to see many posters on the roads, public places, and government properties or even on some private properties and Pune is also not an exception. These posters use to be of local coaching classes, institutions, shops and some local vendors and these are of course illegal. So according to Ashwin, “ We being responsible to keep our Pune clean can react on these illegal things and rather than just ignoring these we can call them and tell them to remove the posters unless they are authorize to do so”. Ashwin did the same on his show, he called few such people and warned them to remove the posters by evening otherwise he would file a complaint against them. Most of them agreed and apologized for the same, saying that they weren’t aware that this was illegal. He also talked to the labors that use to fix such posters on the walls during mid-night and they told that they do this only for money and they are unaware of why the posters are for. Out of the people he called one had posters of his institute scattered all around Deccan Zimkhana area and he promised to remove that by tomorrow morning.

The moral of the story is we should be awake in order to make our environment better. Radio is a very powerful medium and I congratulate SFM for making very good use of it. Who does not like to visit a neat and clean place? I heard people saying that US, UK are very beautiful as compared to India, people are very civilized there, they keep the city clean… bla…bla.. As far as I know Indians also live there in a good number. We go there and join the hands with the foreigners to keep their city clean, why can’t we do the same here? We love to visit parks, we love to visit beautiful places, and we love to spend time where there is greenery. But we always search for such places rather developing our premise in that way. You must be thinking that money is required for everything, but dear friend above example shows that if we wish there are few things which still can be done without money to keep the environment clean and healthy.

Taking a break and request you to find some time to ponder on such things.

A Tribute to Michael Jackson

Today morning while going to office, I heard the news of the sudden demise of one of the greatest artists of the 21st century, Michael Jackson, on the radio. The news has saddened me. I went into flash back to my school days when I used to be a fan of Michael Jackson, not a die-hard fan though. I remember I use to have a collection of his songs. Right now also some of the scenes of his popular pop numbers like “Beat It”, “Black or White” are scrolling in front of my eyes. I am in office, not able to even start my work, so started to write this post. I am still having some of his collections like ‘INVINSIBLE’ and ‘HISTORY’, though due to my busy schedule I rarely get a chance to listen to them. Michael Jackson was a great artist no matter how he was in his personal life. The world recognizes Michael Jackson as the artist who has given a new dimension to dancing and hence he will always be remembered like the same. Everything else will be left apart. This post is my tribute to a man who has achieved success in his life on his own. May his soul rest in peace!

Meet the techies.

Today we have decided to classify one of the most commonly found species in all the metro cities in India – Techie. All of you must be hearing this stupid word in your day to day life. This article is our effort to make you aware of this word and the mass identified by it. So let us start with its definition:

Who is a techie?

‘One who is unaware of what is happening in his surrounding, but thinks he knows everything’

‘One who is adaptable to only a closed environment, but claims he is adaptable to the world’

There can be many more, but we are limiting ourselves to two definitions only. Now we focus on the life and living style of a techie. We did some research in this area also and we came to the conclusion that the lifestyle of a techie depends on the category of the techie. So here we present you the categories of techies identified so far:

Married Techie, Unmarried Techie

Rich Techie, Poor Techie

Intelligent & Successful Techie, Lucky & Successful Techie, Honest & Unsuccessful Techie

Coder Techie, QA Techie

Workaholic Techie, Alcoholic Techie

Fake Techie

Junior Level Techie, Manager Level Techie

*The list above is liable to be modified as the research is still on.

Finally we decided to do some research about the nature about techies. We found that these are the kind of people who make the most use of chat applications. Apart from that they are fond of taking part in regular group discussions during lunch and snacks times. Though they do not leave any topic out from their discussion but there are few they like most. When you talk about manager level techies who happen to be rich techies also they prefer to talk about share markets, politics, scams, books & authors and so on. But most of the techies have few common items/entities to talk about or to show off. Let us have a look on these:

Mobile, Camera, iPod, Laptop, Manager, HR, Coding, Switch, Package

Bike, Car, Flat, Onsite, Appraisal, Increment, Tracking, Restaurants, Weekends (TGIF!)

Forwarded Mails etc.

We are concluding our research article here only albeit there are lot many things we can share about techies. One thing you might have noticed that the word techie seems to be derived from the word technology and the above article in no way infers the same. So we are leaving you with this open question as to how this is possible…
